Renaming WordPress login page can be very useful in preventing brute force attacks making unauthorized login attempts, you can use it on your client sites etc. Sometime back we have posted a tutorial on modifying WordPress admin slug i.e. /wp-admin to something else of your choice. Rename wp-login.php is a similar plugin which allows you to change your login page slug directly from your admin area dashboard.
It is a very light WordPress plugin which enables you to easily and safely change wp-login.php to anything else you want. The plugin doesn’t literally renames or change files in WordPress core and nor it adds or rewrites any new rules.Hence, deactivating the plugin brings your website back to default state.
So How It Works? It just intercepts page requests and can be used on any WordPress site. The wp-admin directory and the wp-login.php page become inaccessible and the website login/admin can only be accessed with the new URL lug which you have defined in the plugin’s settings page.
How To Use It? Install and activate Rename wp-login.php. After activation visit your admin area Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks page, scroll to ‘Rename wp-login.php’ section present at the botton of the page, type the new login URL slug and save your changes. That’s it.
