In the coming release of BuddyPress-1.7, BP developer community is making it compatible with all WordPress themes.

After BP update 1.7 you can leave headache of BP Template Pack which is used for making any WP theme BP compatible, BP Template Pack works fine but its not that easy for common WP users cause it require changing markup and CSS of your WP theme. Hence, removing the requirement for having a BuddyPress-enabled theme is a good idea.
