Now you can very easily record videos directly from your Google Chrome web browser. Screencastify (Screen Video Recorder) is a Google Chrome app that provides you a very easy and user-friendly way of capturing videos of your desktop screen.
With Screencastify (Screen Video Recorder) you can record all screen activity of your tab, window or complete desktop and now it also supports web cam with audio recording.
Starting up with Screen Video Recorder
Start by installing it in your Google Chrome browser, once this extension is installed, it adds its icon on the top right corner of your web browser (right next to the address bar).
You can start recording anytime by clicking the icon followed by ‘Start Recording’ button.
Recording Videos
When the icon is clicked, it shows a dropdown box showing you options to capture Tab, Desktop or Camera Recording. It also provides you options to enable Tab Audio and Microphone.
Once ‘Start Recording’ button is clicked, the app starts to record your screen. You can pause or stop the recording anytime by clicking the same icon.
Saving Screencast Videos
When the recording is stopped, the app automatically directs you to a page where you can view recorded video, share it on YouTube or save it on Google Drive or locally on your computer.
Using this app you can create video tutorials, record presentations and more for your website or YouTube channel.
All videos are recorded as webm/vp8 files with ogg vorbis audio and can be saved to disk or uploaded to Youtube or Google Drive in one click.
Keyboard Shortcuts
If you are screencasting video tutorials or anything for your website or channel then opening this app’s dropdown menu everytime to start/stop recording will show up inside your videos.
To avoid this, you can make use of keyboard shortcuts which can be configured in this app’s options page. You can visit this app’s options page by right clicking app’s icon and selecting ‘Options’ from context menu.
Everything Runs Locally
Video recording happens all locally on your machine and hence files are not transferred to any remote system until you choose to upload them.
Video files are stored on a sandboxed local HTML5 file system which is managed by Chrome but as already said, this app provides you option to save recordings anywhere in your local disk or directly to Google Drive.
