Easily add small-small tweaks in your BuddyPress site without adding many hacks in theme’s function file but by using a single plugin. BP Extended Settings adds an extra tab in BuddyPress settings page showing some more configuration settings for BuddyPress site admins.
Install and activate BP Extended Settings, then visit WordPress admin area Dashboard -> BuddyPress – Extended Settings page. Extended settings page is divided in to three sections: General Settings, Profile Settings and Group Settings. Each section provides you various options which you can enable and disable via checkbox. Check the following screenshots, that would be making it more clear:
