How To Add & Use Multiple Servers Via DNS Cluster Of WHM & cPanel?

While using more than one dedicated server, a DNS cluster allows you to add more servers via WHM so that your group of name servers can share records.

This enables you to physically separate the nameservers that handle the DNS requests from your cPanel and WHM dedicated servers. So that whenever a DNS change occurs on one of your main servers, it gets replicated immediately to all the other servers added in your DNS cluster.

To add the new server to the DNS cluster, simply login to your account and visit your server’s home to implement these changes:

  1. Visit WHM’s DNS Cluster interface via WHM -> Home -> Clusters -> DNS Cluster
  2. Click to Enable DNS Clustering
  3. Click the Change button
  4. Click Return to Cluster Status
  5. Select the server to add to the DNS cluster
  6. Add a new server to the cluster menu
  7. Click Configure
  8. In the Remote cPanel & WHM DNS host text box of the cPanel DNS Remote Configuration interface
  9. Enter the hostname or IP address of the nameserver to add to the cluster
  10. Enter the WHM username for the nameserver
  11. Enter the nameserver’s API token hash or remote access key in the Remote server access hash text box
  12. To automatically configure the DNS cluster on the remote server – Select Setup Reverse Trust Relationship
  13. To synchronize the new server with other nameservers simply select Synchronize Zones Immediately option
  14. To specify the server’s DNS role, select a setting from the DNS Role menu
  15. Click the Submit button

For deleting a server from DNS cluster:

  1. Visit to the DNS Cluster interface via WHM -> Home -> Clusters -> DNS Cluster
  2. In the Modify Cluster Status text box, select Disable DNS Clustering
  3. Click Change, then Click Return to Cluster Status
  4. Log in to the servers that remain in the cluster
  5. Navigate to the DNS Cluster interface via WHM -> Home -> Clusters -> DNS Cluster
  6. Locate the server that you wish to delete
  7. Click the x icon under the Actions heading

To make changes in your server in DNS cluster:

  1. Locate the server that you wish to edit
  2. For DNS changes – In the DNS Role menu, select a new role for the server
  3. Click the save icon to save your changes
  4. Next, to edit a server’s configuration settings
  5. Click the edit icon under the Actions heading
  6. The cPanel DNS Remote Configuration interface will appear

  2. If you’re using iOS 10.3.3 or earlier, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts and tap Add Account
  3. Tap Other to add your account manually
  4. Enter your name, email address, password, and a description of your account
  5. Tap Next and then it will try to find your email settings automatically
  6. If Mail finds your email settings, tap Done
  7. Your account setup is complete now

In case if it fails to find your email settings, then enter those settings manually, follow these steps:

  1. Tap Next, given on the same screen
  2. Choose IMAP or POP for your new account.
  3. Enter the information for the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server.
  4. Tap Save to finish

Remember –

In step number two, if you aren’t sure whether your account is IMAP or POP then you can easily find that.

If you are a cPanel user, simply use these settings:

  1. Username – Your email address
  2. Password – Your email account’s password
  3. Incoming Server – mail.[your domain name]
  4. Incoming Ports – IMAP — 143 POP — 110
  5. Outgoing Server – mail.[your domain name]
  6. SMTP (Outgoing) Port – 25 (587 or 80 also works)

Else, for Business Class Email service, use IMAP with the following hostnames:

  1. Use hostname as imap.secureserver.net for the incoming mail server
  2. Use hostname as smtpout.secureserver.net for the outgoing mail server

Finally, Tap Next. Your app will discover your email account.

The most important settings to configure any email on any device is the username, password, incoming server, outgoing server, account type i.e. IMAP or POP, the incoming port number, and the outgoing port number.

Many devices automatically fetch your account settings by using just your email address and password. In case if that doesn’t work for your device then by knowing the above-mentioned details you can easily set up your email account on any computer or mobile device.

How To Use Domain Redirects On cPanel Of Your Server Or Hosting?

Using domain redirects you can redirect an entire domain or selective links to a new domain or links to individual pages. While configuring a domain redirect on cPanel, you will notice that there are two types of redirect options; temporary redirect, and permanent redirects.

  • A 301 redirect i.e. permanent redirect means that you are directing the page permanently. It prompts the search engines and HTTP clients to update their caches to the new link. It simply indicates that the page has been moved to a new address permanently. This is useful when you move your website to a new domain.
  • A 302 redirect i.e. temporary redirect means Found, but it is mainly used to tell the search engines and HTTP clients that the page is temporarily redirected and will soon be available to the old address, so there is no need for them to update their caches, etc. This is useful while you are developing your website or working on a page.

To configure a redirect, simply log in to your SANGKRIT.net account and follow these steps:

  1. Open the products page
  2. Select your hosting or server
  3. Open your cPanel hosting account or select a cPanel of your server
  4. Scroll down to the Domains section and click the Redirects option
  5. Select Permanent (301) or Temporary (302) from the first dropdown
  6. Choose the domain you want to redirect
  7. In case you are redirecting a page, simply paste the URL of the page
  8. Add the new destination domain or URL including https:// or http:// protocol
  9. Click the Add button

You will also notice that there is a wild card redirect option present as a checkbox. Ticking this option will redirect all of a site’s pages to the same URL you have entered.

Configuring SFTP On Your Dedicated Server

SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) is one secure file protocol used to manage, and transfer files over an encrypted transport connection. In comparison to the traditional FTP protocol, it offers all the functionality in a more secure and easier to configure way.

The lesson guides you on how to connect your cPanel account via SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol or Secure File Transfer Protocol).

SFTP clients generally require the following information to make a connection to the server. Open your SFTP client and configure it with the following information:

  1. Hostname — Your server’s hostname (for example, hostname.yourdomain.com)
  2. SSH port number — The port number on which sshd listens (for instance, 22)
  3. Security — Whether the client combines FTP and SFTP functionality
  4. Username — The SSH username that the client uses to connect to the server
  5. Password — The SSH user’s password
  6. Private Key — The SSH user’s private key

Lets Make This Easier For You,

  • In step number six, this is the absolute path to a private key on your local machine (for instance, c:\data\id_dsa)
  • In step number four, the username can be a valid cPanel account username or the root user
  • Remember, you cannot use your FTP account to connect via SFTP
  • SFTP is not just FTP over SSH. Instead, it is an entirely separate protocol
  • cPanel users can generate and download a private key via cPanel’s SSH Access interface via cPanel -> Home -> Security -> SSH Access
  • The root users can generate and download a private key via WHM’s Manage root’s SSH Keys interface on a dedicated server or VPS via WHM -> Home -> Security Center -> Manage root’s, SSH Keys

Sometimes, you may see a warning that the host of the server is unknown. To cut back on such situations in the future, accept the key and store it on your local machine.

How To Update Folder & File Permissions On cPanel?

All files have some preset permission that directs the cPanel system on handling different access requests. For instance: The file permission tells the cPanel what files are only readable, or editable, or hidden on your server.

You can change file permissions by performing a few steps. Simply log in to your SANGKRIT.net account and follow these steps:

  1. Zero is no permission
  2. Read permission is r or 4
  3. Write permission is w or 2
  4. Execute permission is x or 1

Where,

  • Read allows users to view and read the file
  • Write allows users to edit and update the file
  • Execute allows users to run the file as a program

But the permissions have a different meaning on folders:

  1. Read enables users to list and view the files in the directory
  2. Write enables users to create, rename, and delete files in the directory
  3. Execute enables users to access the files and folders within the directory

Next to each file permission, there are tick boxes for user groups. It allows you to set what permissions on a file are applied to what group of users. There are three groups given as checkboxes:

  • User means permissions are applied to the owner of the file
  • Group means permissions are applied to other users on the group to which the file belongs to
  • World means the permissions are applied for everyone, this also includes users who are not in the group to which the file belongs to

How To Configure PHP Directives On Your Server?

PHP allows you to control different aspects of your websites by using directives in php.ini files. These files contain the default configuration for the operation of PHP applications.

By using PHP directives you can control different variables such as upload size, file timeout, and resource limit, etc of websites running on your hosting, VPS, or dedicated server.

To add or edit a PHP directive – Log in to your SANGKRIT.net account and follow these steps:

  1. Open cPanel of your server or hosting option
  2. Navigate to the File Manager interface via cPanel -> Home -> Files -> File Manager
  3. Make sure that hidden files are visible to you or you can enable them via Settings, by ticking the Show hidden files checkbox option
  4. Navigate to the target directory.
  5. Create a new file – click New File / + File button
  6. Enter .user.ini filename
  7. Click Create New File button
  8. Select the new file from the list of files and click Edit
  9. Now enter the PHP directives you wish to adjust for the present directory
  10. Click the Save button

INI files can be configured on per-directory basis and are processed only by the CGI/FASTCGI SAPI. This functionality obsoletes the PECL htscanner extension. If you are running PHP as an Apache module then the .htaccess file will do your thing.

In addition to the main INI file, PHP scans each directory for its INI file. In a case where the PHP file has been kept outside the document root, only its directory is scanned.

How To Transfer Your Account From Other Server To SANGKRIT.net Server?

The manual transfer requires you to download files as well as the database and then upload it to your new server. But there is another method on dedicated servers that allows you to copy your account directly from your previous cPanel host.

What You Will Need?

To start you will need your server address (IP or FQDN) which you can either find yourself or get from your service provider. Second, you are going to need the username and password of your cPanel account.

On the ‘Server to Copy’ field enter the IP address of your remote server. Next fill in the username and password then press the ‘Copy Account’ button.

In case if you have an additional IP address assigned on your server. You can also select the ‘Give new account an IP address’ option to get the available IP address automatically assigned to your new account.

How It Works?

The server will try to connect to the remote cPanel server and copy the specified account.

It is going to check the remote server every minute till the backup is completed. So at the time the copy process goes do not close your web-browser tab.

How Much Time It Takes?

The time it takes depends on the size of your account on the remote server and once the account is successfully copied you will see the account restored message.

How To See Your Newly Transferred & Restored Account?

Once you see the account restored message at the bottom of the page. Use the top-left search box to type ‘list’, then click on the ‘List Accounts’ option. You should now see the copied account on your server.

What Is Managed SSL And Why You Need One?

The new Managed SSL Service at SANGKRIT.net saves you from the technical steps of installing and implementing HTTPS over your domains.

The installation is automatic and the software itself ensures that your website stays safe and secure on the internet.

It has been programmed to save the user from the manual configuration and common errors of SSL such as:

  • SSL not found error
  • Mixed-content error
  • HTTPS redirect failure error
  • SSL certificate mismatch error

How Managed SSL Works?

Authentication is the keystone of SSL protection. After you subscribe to a Managed SSL, the system itself validates your domain and issues an SSL certificate to ensure your website only takes a secure connection.

After the system configures the SSL certificate on your domain and verifies that everything is correct, you receive an email saying that your website is now successfully running over a secure HTTPS connection.

The system offers you Domain Validation (DV) SSL certificates via Managed SSL Service. You can purchase a certificate for a single site or a multiple-domains certificate i.e. SAN SSL that secures one primary plus four additional domains i.e. a total of five domains.

Redirecting HTTP Domains to HTTPS On Dedicated Server

Once SSL is installed on your dedicated server (as explained here) for the domain name you have selected, you will need to redirect all non-secure http links to secure https connection.

For any website to work over SSL, there are some modifications you will need to make to your .htaccess file, and then it will redirect your visitors to the HTTPS version of your website.

Login to your SANGKRIT.net account and follow the given steps:

How To Install SSL On Dedicated Server?

The SSL certificate establishes encryption over information that is sent to the server. It is the process of scrambling data into an undecipherable format that can only be returned to a readable format with the proper decryption key.

Hence, when a client attempts to send confidential information to a Web server, the user’s browser accesses the server’s digital certificate and establishes a secure connection.

It also authenticates the identity of a website. An SSL certificate contains the following information:

  1. The certificate holder’s name & public key
  2. The certificate’s serial number and expiration date
  3. The digital signature of the certificate-issuing authority

Once you have subscribed to an SSL of your choice, you will need to request an SSL activation for your website, which can be done by following this tutorial here

Next, download SSL on your local machine (laptop, etc)

In most cases (especially on Managed WordPress and Business Hosting) the system auto-installs the certificate. Whereas, dedicated server users can manually install it by following these steps:

  1. Open SANGKRIT.net account
  2. Visit your Products page
  3. Select SSL Certificates
  4. Select Manage for the certificate you want to download.
  5. Under Download Certificate, select a Server type and then select Download Zip File.

Launch your dedicated server:

  1. Visit your Products page
  2. Click the Servers tab
  3. Next to the account, you want to use, click Launch
  4. From the management interface, next to cPanel Site,
  5. Click Manage Server (WHM) and click Proceed

Upload & Install SSL certificate

  1. Search SSL on the left sidebar menu
  2. Click Install an SSL certificate on the domain
  3. Type your domain name in the first field
  4. Click the Browse button
  5. Select and upload your SSL certificate
  6. Click Install button

When you choose the browse and upload option for uploading the certificate you have purchased from SANGKRIT.net, there is no need to fill up any other field, these are auto-discovered from the SSL you are uploading.

The next coming lesson is about redirecting your websites and all their links from HTTP to secure HTTPS.

How To Manage Resources On Dedicated Server?

Managing resources means creating hosting packages having a set resource usage allowance for domains and websites you want to host on your dedicated server.

You can set the maximum amount of resources a domain can use so that other websites won’t get affected by it.

  • If you are running only one website then you may simply allot all your server resources to it
  • If you are running multiple websites then you may either set a resource quota for each website or let all your sites freely use server resources

In this lesson you will learn –

  1. How to create a new hosting package?
  2. How to allot resources to it?
  3. How to assign it to a domain?

Log in to your SANGKRIT.net Account then follow these steps:

  1. Visit Products page
  2. Click the Servers tab
  3. Next to the account, you want to use, click Launch
  4. From the management interface, next to the cPanel Site,
  5. Click Manage Server (WHM)
  6. Click Proceed

On your server’s home, To add a new package

  1. Find the Packages section on the left sidebar,
  2. Click Add a Package

Define limitations such as:

  1. Disk space
  2. Max domains
  3. Max bandwidth usage
  4. Max database usage
  5. Max email, etc

As required by you, each or selective options can be left to unlimited

Next, click the blue color Add button at the bottom of the screen.

Your package has been successfully created.

This way you can create as many packages you want, and each package will work as a separate cPanel hosting account.

You may edit or delete any packages by revisiting the packages page from the left sidebar of your dedicated server‘s home.

These steps also work on virtual private servers.
