WP Retina 2x is a WordPress plugin that creates the image files required by the Retina (High DPI) devices and then displays them to your website users and visitors accordingly. Also compatible with multisite WordPress installations.
It generate retina images automatically – though you can also do this manually to make your website look good on every device.
Start by installing ‘WP Retina 2x’ plugin in WordPress
Upon activation, visit your admin area dashboard Settings -> Retina and select your options. Because you probably won’t be needing retina images for every size set-up in your WordPress site.
For the very first time you will be needing to use the option for generating retina images and then afterwards new images are generated automatically by this plugin.
The plugin supports various methods to serve images:
For instance: PictureFill (future HTML standard + its JS polyfill), Retina.js (JS only), IMG Rewrite (on-the-fly HTML rewrite) and Retina-Images (server handler). There is also a lazy-load option. You can pick the one that works best with your hosting plan.
