MetroMates.Com is India’s first social networking service created specially for Metro train travelers. The service that allows Metro Train Commuters to Interact with fellow Commuters. It was founded by Sameer Suri and launched in New Delhi on Valentine’s Day for Delhi Metro Commuters. The web service is now available for Bangalore and Kolkata Metro. It allows commuters to share their travel schedule online with others and hence they can find a MetroMate or a Travel Partner to commute with everyday. –Source
I welcome you Sameer, please tell our netizens about yourself? How exactly your idea sparked ?
I’m a 26 year old who has always been exited by technology. A computer science graduate, management post graduate. Currently into Digital Marketing with an Internet Company. The idea of MetroMates stuck me after watching the movie – “The Social Network” – Real life story of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. I used to travel everyday in Delhi Metro for alteast an hour, getting bored during the long journey was obvious. So, just got an idea to start a social network for Metro Train commuters. And i booked the domain and launched the website. Never did I thought, but in a few months It made headlines in National and International Publications.
Do you work alone or you have people associated for working together ?
Primarily it’s just me and my brother (Harsh Suri) who are permanently associated with this project. I Take care of the technology and Content. Where as my brother would do social promotions on Facebook and other websites.
What makes your endeavors unique on Internet ?
There are many social networking and location based apps in the market, What makes MetroMates different is that people see each other in real first, and then get friendly online as opposed to other such websites. One may find it queer, but that’s how it is – It’s a social network that caters to ones personal desires and meet up with strangers.
What philosophy drives you doing this ?
We simply believe in spreading Joy and turning strangers to Friends!;
What are your plans for the future of MetroMates.Com ? Any other projects you are working on ?
I’m committed towards a long term goal of making MetroMates popular not just in Delhi or India but Globally. I am not working on any other project.
I am open for interviewing all those individuals, who own their domain to somehow create virtual wealth in webspace since sustaining freedom is mostly built around domains running wonderful utilities in webspace that humanbeings enjoy. What is your opinion for continuing this?
